Hard Candy Stud Calendar participated in our first Pride parade in Chicago this year. there was nothing but fun and sun. thank goodness for Gatoraid! as i walked and walked and walked and walked along the parade routes, i had plenty of moments where my mind simply wandered. looking into the faces of gays and their supporters ranging in ages from 2 months old to 800 months old, screaming in support of the floats but mostly screamin 2 get beads tossed at them, i wondered what was all this really about? i mean really really. is this pride?

i look at the gay pride parade and it seems 2 b a freak show for white gay men. with the rainbow wings and the assless chaps providing more ammunition for our detractors. nothing about the pride festivities actually show PRIDE. events that celebrate our dignity, courage and perserverance simply do not exist. what’s the point of a party? we have gay “parties” every weekend at the club. how is a pride party different? it’s not. it’s just more people. i guess more makes it special somehow. the whole thing leaves me unfulfilled and a little bit sadder. i love being around my fellow gays but in what capacity? running around like a bunch of crazies on the street. getting drunk and lookin like fools? yes, i know i’m generalizing. but seriously all the decent folk get drowned out by the not-so-decent. when u’r young, all this aimless hoopla is fun. there’s no goal but to scream, get full and possibly meet someone new. but when u get older and have responsibilities to get back to, it’s not really a good idea to work your body so hard and u got a significant other to go home with already. the luster is gone. the only ones that seem 2 keep their zeal is the white gay male. they’re out there in full force from the young young boys all the way to the senior citizen bears. there aren’t as many blacks out there. then again we have black gay pride next week.

now i know what i just said sounds all fucked up. but i’m at a stage in my life where i want a little more meaning. i’m all for having fun. but i think we should name it accordingly. it seemed 2 b more of a gay mardi gras as opposed to gay pride. but then i stop and wake the hell up and see that there is pride. it’s all over the place. there are people that want to say something.

but wait! who’s to say that everything has 2 be all serious and making statements 2 the world? sometimes one has to blow off some steam and just let go of all of the bullshit that we get on the regular and just be free. just for a day.

Happy Pride Everyone

April’s poll on the Hard Candy Calendar’s website asked if the boycott of Jamaica was necessary. Very few people answered but those that did said yes. When I initially started the poll I agreed. Sure I’ll boycott Jamaica. All one had to do was not go. Avoid some products that included beers and rum. These days, yours truly doesn’t have much money so traveling was out of the question and I don’t drink much alcohol. Easy. I can just be me and still make a stand. How fuckin lazy is that? Shame on me. That’s not activism. That’s fake and I’m willing to wager the same goes for many others. I bet there are people boycotting Jamaica that don’t even know it. We’ve all heard how terrible it is for gays over there and we respond with a disappointed head shake and go about our day. The end. But it’s not the end. The gays still suffer.

I thought about it and discussed and meditated on it. I don’t believe a boycott will help. Especially after reading about the gay Jamaican’s point of view. The governement doesn’t care about them. Attacking the governement won’t make things better. It will make things worse. We need to find another way. Cuz this isn’t it. The injustice they experience, the attacks, the threats aren’t going to stop just cuz business gets slow. So please visit http://www.jflag.org/ and join the fight. A fight that starts right here. Right here where we have our own injustices heaped upon gays.

What of the New Jersey Four? Has anyone heard that story?

Four of seven womyn were convicted of an assault of a man who made advances to one of them in August of 2006 were given prison terms ranging from 3 1/2 to 11 years. The media reported the story with headlines that read: Attack of the Killer Lesbians. Told solely from the perspective of the “victim”. They were called a gang by some sources and portrayed as sinister. Even Bill O’Reilly mentioned it. And you can guess what his opinion was. But with all of that, what was I doing? Nothing. Reading the articles and shaking my head while getting distracted by Madonna’s next baby adoption and Kanye’s latest rant. Shame on me. I have to thank an internet buddy of mine for sending out an update on these womyn and letting me know their current fate as well as challenge me to do something about it.

Two of the four had their sentences over turned. Wonderful. But two still remain in jail. And for what? Cuz some ig’nant asshole wanted a date and couldn’t get one. So I guess we are supposed to just shut the fuck up and take it when a man disrespects us. *sigh* So some work still needs to be done. I have found a couple of places that discuss the case and offer ways in which we can support these young ladies. I will definitely go there and look into it and I encourage anyone reading this to do the same. You can start here: freenj4.wordpress.com. Let’s help these young lesbians get the justice they deserve. Helping them will help us all. No matter what city, state or country we’re in. We need justice to catch fire and spread. From Jersey to Jamaica and back again.

That’s just wrong. I’m sorry but they shouldn’t be together. It just doesn’t look right” sentiments often expressed by heterosexuals when seeing a gay couple. we’ve all heard it in some fashion. but this time, those words were spoken by a lesbian about two other lesbians. damn shame. and for what? cuz the couple in question were two studs. fine, it don’t look right to you. whatever that means. but the part that got me what the following comment: “that’s like two men.” huh? that’s was so wrong on so many levels. i can’t even type fast enough to keep up with all the problems that i have with the statement. do i even have to spell it out?

i’m not going to even bother talking about the idea that a lesbian (who is gay) havin’ a problem with gay men. but how can a lesbian fix her mouth to say the same homophobic crap that st8s say about us? studs are not men. we all know that so why go there?

conditioning. plain and simple. so simple that we don’t even see with within ourseves. we are in a hetero-centric society. we are bombarded from the minute we leave the womb that boys do this and gyrls do that. gay isn’t taboo and we mustn’t do these things. even when we realize that we are not heterosexual we still bring that thought process with us to our own homosexual communities. many adopt hetero roles within the gay relationships. and still look at others who don’t do it as if they are wrong. the hypocrisy makes my stomach hurt. mainly because so many of us don’t even realize that we’re doing it and will defend this thought process if confronted by it. classic case of stockholm syndrome.

we break away from one set of rules only to take those very rules and apply it to ourselves anyway. but got the nerve to twist to suit us like that’s gon make it better. two studs can’t be together. but two femmes? das cool. yup. …. oh come on! u’d think a str8 man was making this up. no wait, a str8 man DID make this stuff up. but we’re the ones that’s going to continue to go along with it. please stop.
two womyn together are two womyn. period. that’s it. it doesn’t matter what they’re wearing. femme/stud, femme/femme, stud/stud. don’t matter how u mix it up. it’s still four tits and two vaginas in the bedroom.
